What is your favourite childhood book?
One of mine has stayed with me as a perfect metaphor for why I do what I do.
Mr. Rush by Roger Hargreaves.
Mr Rush is always tremendously busy. Look at him go! He is a man with a plan. He is a whirlwind of action. He gets a lot done!
“Mr. Rush is the fastest being on two legs. He used to rush hither and thither and thither and hither and back again, all the time.”
But as his story progresses we find he is not comfortable. Or truly productive.
He is not in his power. He cannot find his place.
He is on a treadmill that he cannot get off.
"One morning he woke up with a jump.
He'd only had time for three hours' sleep because he'd been rushing about the day before.
"Oh dear," he cried, leaping out of bed, "I'm late!""
In the 1978 original edition he eventually finds his vocation ( as an express postman) so he can save for a holiday. He recognises his need to relax.
As a child I had high hopes for this holiday! Surely this would be the ultimate solution to Mr. Rush's stress. The perfect reward!
"And so, the very next week, there was Mr. Rush sitting on a beach in the hot sunshine under a palm tree on holiday.
"This is the life," he grinned.
And rushed off for a swim.
His fifteenth that day!
And then it was breakfast time!"
The end. Problem solved. He has found his peace.
Except that as we know the demands of life and work continue and in the 1985 Mr. Men Annual we find him restless once more.
After a series of ineffective hasty moments we learn that now "....even holidays are a rush for Mr. Rush." and that he started planning the next holiday even when he was already on one!
Does it feel like your life become a series of things to tick off your list, ever racing towards the next milestone, the next holiday or chink of free time, only to find it impossible to relax and feel the need to be productive even then?
This is exhausting. It causes overwhelm and burnout.
Knowing how to relax the body and mind to release old energy and emotions helps us to be more efficient and precise with our time.
It becomes much easier to be more aligned with the present moment. To enjoy the journey.
Like a holiday for your mind the right type of meditation can be deeply relaxing, rejuvenating and FUN.
Luminaura Meditation is not just another thing to tick off your to-do list.
It offers simple effective techniques so you can deepen your connection with your powerful, creative mind and find true freedom and focus. In work and in life.
You remember you are much more than your to-do list.
Your to-do list becomes a breeze.
Try it for yourself: I invite you to play this 7 minute meditation any time you need to restore and refresh your energy during your working day.
(Or even if you are finding it hard to unwind on holiday!)
Please be sure to be in a place you won't be disturbed and where it is safe for you to close your eyes.
